Scottish Championship

The second tier of the Scottish professional football league, consisting of 10 teams, who play each other 4 times, making up a total of 36 games each.

The team who finishes top of the league gains automatic promotion to the Scottish Premiership. Teams finishing 2nd, 3rd and 4th are entered in to a two legged promotion playoff.

The third placed team plays the 4th placed team first, with the winner then playing the 2nd placed team. The winner of that match goes on to play the Premiership’s 11th placed team in the Championship playoff final. The winning team is relegated/promoted to the Premier League and the losing team either remains, or is relegated, to the Championship.

The team finishing bottom of the league is automatically relegated to League 1, whilst the team who finished in 9th place is entered in to the relegation playoff semi final to face League 1 opposition in the same format as the Championship playoff.

7 substitutes can be named in a league game, 3 of which can be used.
